Dear Friends: I am

happy to announce the schedule of courses available to students DURING summer of 2010 at my home-studio in the north of Italy. My home is in a small village, street Mornico Lausanne, in a beautiful quiet area "Oltrepò ' Pavese”, near the city of Pavia. It is surrounded by green hills, vineyards, excellent wineries, and bucolic landscapes. The past years have been spent transforming this hundred-year-old former winery into a comfortable home with a working glass studio where I create my pieces and teach. For the past two summers we enjoyed the presence of the students who came from South America, United States, Australia and Europe and it was really a grate experience!

Step by step, we are restoring the buildings…I hope to have more studios ready in future, where every kind of glass technique can be developed and studied. I also hope that artists coming from around the world will enjoy sharing with me this little piece of paradise. There is still a lot to do…but I am excited to say again “Welcome to my world!”
After coming to Mornico, you will take back home more than a technical knowledge. My desire is that you will understand the essence of my artwork and that you will have a sensory experience: breathing the scent of blossoming trees, carried with the wind from the valley, you will taste the Italian spirit. Your experience would be enhanced by visiting nearby castles and especially the old town of Pavia, filled with history and Roman style churches.

We are located about less than two hours southeast of Milan. During the free day or in the evenings after the classes, it will be possible to visit old wineries and taste the great wines that these hills offer us, their golden Muscatel grapes among the best in the world. We are just in the middle of “The Riesling Valley”. There are a lot of beautiful things to see in the area including various summer village festivals.

My new studios are well equipped, comfortable and suitable for accommodating students. Class prices include all materials and lunches during the days of class.
The menu is vary and will consist of all Italian products and very traditional food, so you will experience “a different taste of Italy” each day.
Following is the schedule of classes for 2010 which Includes the “Miriam Di Fiore’s technique” to create landscapes in glass, (basic and advanced); an intensive class of “light painting” and basic and advanced traditional glass fusing with introduction to kiln-casting and “pate de verre”.
This year most of classes will last 9 days, with a free day included, in the way that the students can enjoy rest and the possibility to visit the area.
I will enjoy to share the free time with my students, showing how beautiful is the “Oltrepò Pavese” and how good could be the “Ravioli” in some of the pleasant restaurants in the hills.
If some one would like to have some holidays before or after the course, I remind you that we are very close to Milan, Genoa, Torin, and Pavia, and with the train is possible to get to “Cinque Terre” National Park in less than two hours. By train is possible to be in Florence, Rome or Venice in almost 4 hours. We can arrange a taxi service from and to the train station of Voghera City.

The instructor will choose the image for the first project. Bullseye glass and frits will be used in a layering process to create the landscapes. Vitrograph stringers will be made, worked with a torch and used in the piece. The student will follow the process step by step to get the entire image translated into a flat glass piece with depth and an extremely realistic effect. For the second project, students can choose from a variety of images presented by the teacher or use a photo or paint or their own image if it is compatible with the materials and the degree of difficulty, in the opinion of the teacher, will be sustainable for the student.
